City to Consider Filling Goldberg’s Seat

Share

A city panel recommended Friday that the City Council consider making a temporary appointment to fill the council seat vacated by Jackie Goldberg’s election to the state Assembly. The panel asked the city clerk to develop a process.

With a regular election for Goldberg’s former 13th Council District scheduled for April 10, the council’s Rules and Elections Committee agreed Friday that there is not enough time to hold a special election to fill the seat on an interim basis. Councilwoman Ruth Galanter, the committee’s chairwoman, asked the clerk to propose a fair and open process for appointments, rather than simply accept Goldberg’s former deputy, Sharon Delugach, to fill the spot. The council is expected to take the matter up next week.
