* Broadway Musical--Glendale Center Theatre is currently staging a production of the Leonard Bernstein-Stephen Sondheim musical “West Side Story.” A retelling of Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet,” the show centers on star-crossed lovers from rival street gangs in 1950s New York City. The score includes show-tune favorites “Maria,” “Tonight,” “Somewhere” and “I Feel Pretty.” Show times: Wednesday-Friday, 8 p.m.; Saturday, 3 and 8 p.m. Ends April 7. The venue is at 324 N. * Vocal Concert--Swedish baritone Hakan Hagegard will give a concert Friday at the Alex Theatre in Glendale. Hagegard was catapulted to stardom by his performance as Papageno in Ingmar Bergman’s 1973 film version of Mozart’s “The Magic Flute.” He has performed at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, La Scala, Covent Garden and other major opera houses around the world. * Classical Guitar--Classical guitarist Margarita Escarpa will play Saturday at Cal State Northridge. Escarpa has won eight international guitar competitions and performed throughout Europe, Asia and North America. * Art Opening--Cal State Northridge will open its new art galleries Saturday at 8 p.m. with “Sirens & Other Neon Seductions,” an exhibit by neon sculptor Lili Lakich. The galleries are housed in the new addition to the school’s Art and Design Center on the north end of campus. Saturday’s grand opening will include live music by the Soul Dogs.
