Myplay Restructures

Myplay Inc., a leading supplier of online music-storage services, announced that it has changed its business focus and laid off 22 of its 53 employees to “conserve our available funding.” Although the company will continue to offer free music lockers to consumers, Chief Executive Doug Camplejohn said Myplay will concentrate on building online music-subscription services for other companies. The company has signed up more than 5 million customers for its locker service, most of them arriving through exclusive deals with two America Online music services. But Myplay has yet to strike licensing agreements with the major record labels, and it won’t be able to offer subscription services with the most popular music unless the labels are on board.
