Woman Hit, Killed While Running Across Freeway

A woman who dashed across five lanes of the Ronald Reagan Freeway to a call box Thursday was struck and killed as she tried to return to her disabled car, authorities said.

The woman’s Honda Prelude had a flat tire in the westbound carpool lane just east of Tampa Avenue about 6 p.m., CHP Officer Karen Faciane said.

The woman, described as about 30, ran to a call box on the shoulder and called the CHP. The operator told her not to try to return to the car, but the woman did so and was hit by several vehicles, said Faciane and Los Angeles Fire Department officials. Only the first driver who hit the woman stopped, Faciane said.
