Preparation of a revised regional transportation plan will be discussed at a meeting next week of the Sylmar Community Coordinating Council.

A Southern California Assn. of Governments representative will discuss the 25-year plan, which is updated every three years to reflect population predictions and anticipated funding.

The plan identifies projects aimed at improving mobility and reducing congestion, while meeting air quality regulations in the six-county region served by the association.

“It’s not just a wish list, but a financially responsible plan,” said association spokesman Jeff Lustgarten. “It only includes projects that can be financed.”

It hasn’t been decided which San Fernando Valley transportation projects will be included, because association and Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials are still discussing the plan, said Huasha Liu, senior transportation planner. The group’s Regional Council is set to consider adopting the updated plan on May 3.

The Sylmar Community Coordinating Council will meet at noon Wednesday at the Mandarin King restaurant, 17092 Devonshire St. Admission is free and lunch is optional.
