How Sweet It Was for Johnson to Get Ring

Share

What a great article about Lou Johnson [Feb. 10]. The article couldn’t, however, fully convey the joy and happiness that Sweet Lou spreads wherever he goes. I was fortunate to work with him in the Dodgers’ Community Services Department 16 years ago. We were great friends then, and still run into each other occasionally at the stadium. But no matter how much time passes, he always greets me with the enthusiasm of a lifelong best friend.

The Dodgers’ acquisition of his World Series ring was a terrific gesture, but it wasn’t made for someone who is simply known for his athletic heroics, or his ability to overcome the perils of drugs and alcohol. The Sweet One is as genuinely nice as anyone you’ll ever meet, and it’s great to see the Dodgers respect him for all of those wonderful qualities.
