Gadzuric Feels Ankle This Time

Center Dan Gadzuric said his ankle was stiff Saturday, two days after he played on it against Arizona and scored 22 points in UCLA’s upset victory.

“It happens. I didn’t really have time to rest it,” he said. “It swelled up a little bit.”

After playing 13 scoreless minutes against Arizona State, he said he expects to be improved Thursday at Oregon.

“I’m going to do all the things I need to do to get ready to play,” Gadzuric said. “I’ll go live in the training room.”

Coach Steve Lavin wasn’t surprised Gadzuric’s ankle still bothered him.

“My hunch, the other night he was playing on adrenaline and didn’t even feel the ankle,” Lavin said, adding that while Gadzuric needs more treatment and rest, he has not re-injured his ankle.

Forward Billy Knight has been the Bruins’ leading scorer in two of the last five games, including the upset of No. 1 Stanford.

Against Arizona State, he was even the focal point of the UCLA offense at times.

“It was the first time it’s ever been like that,” Knight said.

Guard Earl Watson said the players have known Knight can score, but adds there’s another reason he’s helping so much.

“He looks like he’s the only guy on the court with fresh legs,” Watson said. “Maybe it’s because he started playing later in the season.”

Knight said he is in “top shape.”

“I know I can go the whole game, even late in the season.”
