A State-of-Mind Address by Charron

Share

Will there be fireworks and champagne tonight if the Ducks defeat the Calgary Flames and end their franchise-record 11-game winless streak (0-8-3) at the Arrowhead Pond? After all, the Ducks’ last home victory was Jan. 3.

“It’s not that you accept losing, but losing almost becomes a way of life,” Coach Guy Charron said when asked about his team’s state of mind.

“I think you can get complacent if you’re a good team and you’re playing a weak team. We’ve got to play the same way against every team. I don’t think we can afford to be complacent. It’s not like we can say, ‘Oh, look, we’re only playing against Calgary tonight.’

“Calgary is ahead of us in the standings.”

Charron wasn’t certain whether center German Titov would be fit to play tonight. Titov has been sidelined for two games because of a bruised shoulder. A decision will be made this morning.

The Ducks have killed 14 consecutive shorthanded situations dating to a 2-2 tie Feb. 11 against the Carolina Hurricanes. Their overall penalty-killing success rate is 81%, ranking 26th in the 30-team league.
