New West Symphony will perform an all-Beethoven program to open its spring season this weekend in Oxnard and Thousand Oaks. The orchestra, led by conductor Boris Brott, will be joined by guest pianist Anton Kuerti, who has performed throughout the world and with most major U.S. symphonies. This weekend’s music: “Leonore” Overture No. 3, Op. 72; Piano Concerto No. 4 in G, Op. 58; Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67.

One-Acts

Theater students at Ventura College will open their spring One-Act Play Festival on Friday at the campus’ main theater venue. All performances have student directors, actors and crews. The program includes “Mary MacGregor” by Keith Alan Benjamin, directed by Nisia Gil; “Sure Thing” by David Ives, directed by Jas Batra; “The Frog Prince” by David Mamet, directed by Aaron Levitz.

Celtic Band

The Texas-based Clandestine, a tight four-piece band with a repertoire rooted in the Celtic tradition, will give a dinner show Sunday at California Grill in Camarillo. The group’s diverse songbook, featuring some notable bagpipe-and-fiddle medleys, includes original works by singer-guitarist Jennifer Hamel.

Folk-Singer

Massachusetts singer-songwriter David Roth will kick off the 20th season of Tom and Becky Lowe’s “Folk Music in Ojai” series Tuesday. Several of Roth’s songs have been performed and recorded by Peter, Paul & Mary. Roth was the 1987 New Folk winner at Texas’ Kerrville Folk Festival. He describes his music as “a dash of Dan Fogelberg, a pinch of David Letterman, a whoosh of Will Rogers and a touch of James Taylor.”
