Celtic music group Altan will perform Saturday in Northridge. After the band performed at the Hollywood Bowl last summer, the Times’ Don Heckman wrote: “. . . one of the Celtic world’s great treasures, gifted with a front line--fiddlers Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh and Ciaran Tourish and button accordionist Dermot Byrne--that is a sheer powerhouse.”

Also, the trio Triangulo, featuring Grammy-winning clarinetist Paquito D’Rivera, cellist Gustavo Tavares and pianist Pablo Zinger, will perform Friday night in Northridge. The group combines elements of jazz, classical and Latin music. Included in its program is a set of tangos by Argentine Astor Piazzolla.

Dance Celebration

“SwingDance America,” a celebration of swing dance, will open this weekend at the University of Judaism’s Gindi Auditorium in Sepulveda Pass. The show, featuring 10 dancers, offers a mix of solos, duets, small group and full company production numbers. Styles include jitterbug, Lindy, jive, shag, boogie-woogie, bebop, West Coast, East Coast and Western.

Musical Benefit

The Arts Council for Cal State Northridge will present “Mostly Music,” a fund-raising concert featuring CSUN music faculty members and students, Sunday afternoon on campus. Betsy Palmer, a stage, screen and television actress, will host the event, which will benefit scholarship funds for art, music and theater students.
