GRANADA HILLS — A 22-year-old motorist died after his car was hit by a speeding truck as he made an illegal U-turn on a narrow side street, police said Saturday.
Robert William Greening, 22, of Granada Hills was heading north on Gothic Avenue near Germain Street about 5:45 p.m. Friday when he swung wide to the right, then attempted to make a U-turn in the middle of the block, Los Angeles Police Officer Connie Silber said.
A Ford Ranger pickup coming up behind Greening struck the driver’s side of Greening’s Dodge Neon as he made the turn, Silber said.
Greening, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered spine and neck injuries. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died at 6:47 p.m.
The name of the other driver, a male juvenile, was not released. He was not injured, Silber said. An investigation is ongoing.
