Motorists Ticketed at Rail Crossings

A safety “blitz” Monday targeted two Sun Valley railroad crossings where more than 200 citations have been handed out for illegal track crossings during the past year, a Metrolink spokeswoman said.

Claudia Keith said the joint effort by Metrolink and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department focused on two problem crossings--at Branford and Sheldon streets, along a two-mile stretch of San Fernando Road.

Motorists at those crossings often drive around safety gates and ignore the flashing lights that warn of oncoming trains, authorities said.

Pedestrians also have been cited for trespassing on the tracks.

Six to 10 officers were stationed at the crossings Monday to issue citations and warnings, Keith said.
