First Look: The Newxt Round

Baltimore (13-4) at Tennessee (13-3); 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Channel 2

* When Baltimore has the ball: While it may be stating the obvious, for the Ravens to win they must score a touchdown. That’s it, only one. Remarkably, when the Ravens have scored more than six points in a game this season, they’ve won. Baltimore will design a game plan that relies heavily on ball control, minimizing the risk of turnovers by quarterback Trent Dilfer. Look for rookie Jamal Lewis to get 25 to 30 carries. The Ravens must get more production from Shannon Sharpe and Qadry Ismail than in recent weeks.

* When Tennessee has the ball: The Titans should avoid feeding Eddie George into the middle of the Ravens’ meat-grinder run defense by running counter plays as well as involving him heavily in the passing game. Steve McNair must keep the Ravens off balance by scrambling and creating on the run. If he stays in the pocket, he risks getting knocked out of the game. If McNair and George can combine for 100 yards rushing, the Titans should win. Baltimore has allowed an average of 104 yards rushing in its four losses, compared to an average of 46 yards in its 12 regular-season victories.

* X-factor: Tight ends Frank Wycheck of Tennessee and Sharpe. They are the keys to opening up the defenses over the middle as they usually draw double coverage from a linebacker and a safety.

* The edge to: Tennessee. While the Ravens are the only team to beat the Titans at Adelphia Coliseum, it won’t happen this time. The Titans have more weapons on offense and while the Raven defense has gotten all the postseason accolades, Tennessee’s is just as rigid.
