Tiznow Is Finalist for Horse of the Year

Tiznow, who capped his 3-year-old season with an upset victory in the Breeders’ Cup Classic in November, is among the finalists for the Eclipse award as horse of the year.

Finalists were announced Wednesday for the Eclipse awards, which will be presented Jan. 30 in New Orleans.

Besides Tiznow, who is also among the finalists for top 3-year-old colt or gelding, the other contenders for horse of the year are Kona Gold, the Breeders’ Cup Sprint winner and unanimous choice as top sprinter, and Lemon Drop Kid.

Following are the finalists in the remaining Eclipse categories:

* 2-year-old filly: Caressing, Raging Fever and She’s A Devil Due.

* 2-year-old colt or gelding: City Zip, Flame Thrower, Macho Uno and Point Given.

* 3-year-old filly: Jostle, Spain and Surfside.

* 3-year-old colt or gelding: Fusaichi Pegasus, Giant’s Causeway and Tiznow.

* 3-year--old and up, turf male: John’s Call, Kalanisi and War Chant.

* 3-year-old and up, turf female: Gaviola, Perfect Sting and Tout Charmant.

* 4-year-old and up, male: General Challenge, Kona Gold and Lemon Drop Kid.

* 4-year-old and up, female: Beautiful Pleasure, Heritage Of Gold and Riboletta.

* 4-year-old and up, steeplechase: All Gong, Pompeyo and Yellowroad.

* Outstanding breeder: Juddmonte Farms, Harry Mangurian Jr. and Frank Stronach.

* Outstanding owner: Michael Cooper, Cecilia Straub-Rubens, Juddmonte Farms and Frank Stronach.

* Outstanding trainer: Bobby Frankel, Scott Lake and Joe Orseno.

* Outstanding jockey: Russell Baze, Pat Day and Jerry Bailey.

* Outstanding apprentice: Norberto Arroyo Jr., Tyler Baze and Greta Kuntzweiler.
