Private Los Angeles investment group Maritz, Wolff & Co. has agreed to purchase the legendary 249-room Carlyle Hotel on Manhattan’s Upper Eastside for $130 million. The hotel will retain its name but will be managed by Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, a Dallas-based firm that is 50%-owned by Wolff Maritz. The 71-year-old hotel has attracted an elite clientele over the years, including President Kennedy and Britain’s Princess Diana. Only 180 rooms are available to overnight guests. The rest are owned by a private cooperative. The purchase of the hotel is expected to be finalized during the first quarter of this year.
