San Diego State 61, Loyola Marymount 58--Randy Holcomb scored 13 of his game-high 19 points in the second half and the Aztecs withstood two potential game-tying three-point attempts for the nonconference victory before 1,796 at Gersten Pavilion.

It was another frustrating, close loss for Loyola (4-9), which has lost five games by five points or fewer.

Loyola guard Robert Davis took two three-point shots in the final 13 seconds. On the second, he drew contact from Aztec forward Myron Epps but no foul was called and the Lions’ third consecutive loss was sealed.

“Bottom line is we’ve got to be able to execute,” said Loyola Coach Steve Aggers, whose team had a five-point lead at halftime. “It shouldn’t come down to a last-second shot.”

San Diego State (10-3) ended a 30-game road losing streak and has surpassed its win total for the previous two years combined.

Elton Mashack had 18 points to lead Loyola.
