About 1,800 volunteers are being sought for making free repairs to homes and buildings for low-income, disabled and elderly residents and nonprofit organizations at 60 sites in Orange County.

The Orange County affiliate of the national Christmas in April nonprofit organization will launch its 11th annual county effort with a pancake breakfast Saturday.

Most of the work will take place April 28, and emergency-type projects will be done throughout the year. New volunteers are encouraged to participate and attend the pancake breakfast, from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at the local headquarters, 625 S. Cypress St., Santa Ana.

“Since this is a volunteer-based project, we need the participation of the entire community,” said Executive Director Greg Jacobson, “particularly volunteer workers--skilled and unskilled--and donations of funding and building materials.”

The county chapter has rehabilitated 230 homes and nonprofit agency sites with plumbing, painting, electrical work, carpentry, plastering, gardening and yard cleanup efforts. Volunteers refurbished 7,400 sites in more than 700 cities throughout the country last year.
