The Week Ahead on the Web

Share

Pick of the Week:

* Blues--Noon Monday: Joe Houston is one of the true legends of the jump blues of the late 1940s and 1950s. Coming out of Texas, where Joe Turner gave his career a big boost, Houston ended up in Los Angeles playing his wailing sax on countless classic R&B; and rock ‘n’ roll songs. Although he is hugely respected among musicians, his only national hit came in 1952 with “Worry, Worry, Worry.” This concert by Houston, who can still get a soulfully blasting sound out of his sax, was recorded at the House of Blues club in Orlando, Fla. https://www.hob.com/live/events

Today

* Classical--8 a.m.: Andrew Manze, a great violin interpreter of Baroque music, hosts the first in a series of four programs on early compositions for the violin. This program looks at works from Italy, with music by Viviani, Locatelli and Vivaldi, performed by Fabio Biondi, Enrico Gatti and Giulio Carmignola. https://www.bbc.co.uk/radio3

* Animation--4 p.m.: Will Vinton probably will always be best known for his creation of one of the most successful advertising campaigns ever, the California Raisins. Now he does the stop-motion animation for “The PJs” series and the upcoming “Gary and Mike” series for television. America Online subscribers can use keywords “AOL Live” to tune in to this chat.

This concert was recorded in July. It’s pay-per-view ($7.99) for high-bandwidth connections but free for those with dial-up modems. https://www.hob.com/live/events

* Gospel--Noon: The Sons of Glory vocal quartet is a unique mixture of traditional and contemporary gospel genres. The leader is Tommie Ligons, who comes out of a gospel tradition, and the other members are more oriented toward contemporary sounds. https://www.hob.com/live/events
