A longtime community activist and instructor in biology and physiology has been named distinguished faculty chair at Moorpark College.

Larry Miller, a faculty member at the campus since 1971, was chosen by colleagues for his teaching skills and service to the community.

Miller, 61, is president of the union representing faculty at the county’s three community colleges.

He is also active in the Ventura County Living Wage Coalition, Tri-Counties Central Labor Council and is treasurer of the county Democratic Party Central Committee.

He also served as an alternate delegate to the Democratic convention in August.

“Larry was chosen for his service to the college, the faculty and the community,” said Char Arnold, president of the faculty organization that gives the annual award. “We felt it was time to honor him.”

Miller, who earned a doctorate in biology from UC Santa Barbara, is the fifth faculty member to hold the post.
