The public library will host a 22-week college-level course on teaching reading for parents, educators and day-care providers.
Called Early Steps to Reading Success, the program starts Wednesday at the Central Library. The sessions, which will be broadcast via direct satellite, will be held from 5:45 to 7:45 p.m. each Wednesday through June 27.
Participants will receive extensive instruction on teaching children under 5 years old the basics of reading. Students will also be able to receive credits for community college and UCLA’s extension program.
The program is free, and there is room for about 40 students on a first-come, first-served basis. The course is being broadcast by the Heads Up program and is sponsored by the state of California.
The Central Library is at 26 Civic Center Plaza, at North Ross Street and Civic Center Drive West. Information: (714) 647-5391.
