Abused Girl’s Killers Get Life Sentences
A man and woman convicted of murdering an 8-year-old girl whom they had beaten and starved received life sentences, and the British government ordered an inquiry into why authorities who had been alerted to the girl’s plight bungled the case. Anna Climbie, born in the Ivory Coast, had 128 bruises on her body when she died of starvation and hypothermia in London last February, according to court testimony. Her great-aunt, Marie Therese Kouao, 44, a French citizen, and boyfriend Carl Manning, 28, a London bus driver, were both convicted of murder and child cruelty.
