Four people were injured--one seriously--in a traffic accident involving a suspected drunk driver in Newport Beach late Friday night.

The accident occurred about 11:25 p.m. when a Ford Taurus driven by Matthew Reves Gorry, 35, of Cypress collided head-on with a Mercedes-Benz driven by 29-year-old Shelley Lynn Johnson of Foothill Ranch.

Gorry had been northbound on Newport Boulevard and crossed over the raised median into the southbound lanes at West Coast Highway, where he collided with Johnson, police said. Both cars were then hit by a Honda Civic.

A passenger in Johnson’s car, Kristin Marie Zocholl, 32, of Riverside, suffered a head injury that resulted in bleeding in the brain, police said. Zocholl also sustained a dislocated hip and a broken leg in the accident. She was admitted to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana.

Johnson suffered a broken arm and complained of back and ankle pain and was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange. A second passenger in the car, 23-year-old Samantha Ann Mongeon of Costa Mesa, suffered a broken collarbone and cuts to her face. She was taken to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach.

Gorry sustained a broken leg and arm and was admitted to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana. He was later arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving.

The driver of the Honda Civic, Trudy Marie McCall, 21, of Newport Beach, was not injured.

Police were still investigating the accident Saturday.
