Jupiter is the bright planet high in the east during the early evening. Its four large moons, which were discovered by Galileo, can be seen with any telescope. Shown here is the view through binoculars. Tonight three are grouped closely together on the east side of the planet. Io is the most volcanically active body in the solar system. Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto are all believed to have oceans of liquid water under a thick layer of ice.
