Todd Visits With Team

Before the Clippers were shot down at Milwaukee on Tuesday, they received a surprise visit from Jim Todd, who coached the team over the second half of last season.

Todd, who took over as interim coach when Chris Ford was fired shortly before last season’s All-Star break, has not had an easy time since the Clippers let him go after he compiled a 4-33 record.

When Todd returned home to Boston last summer, he found out he had prostate cancer and needed surgery.

“But I’m good now,” Todd said. “I’ve been told by the doctors that I’m completely cancer free.”

For the last week, Todd has worked as a consultant with the Bucks. Coach George Karl has included him in all of the team’s coaching activities and Todd even traveled with the team to play the Washington Wizards.

“It’s good for me to get different views,” said Todd, who hopes to land an NBA assistant job. “I’ll go around to a couple more teams. I plan to go to Cleveland, Portland and the New York Knicks.”

Todd has followed the Clippers this season and said it was good to see his former players.

“It was cool to see the guys, they were good because I think they knew what was going on,” said Todd, who has kept in touch with assistant coaches Dennis Johnson and Rex Kalamian. “The good thing is that I wasn’t fired. I stepped in and did the best I could to keep the ship afloat.

“I’ve watched most of their games, and they have a good group of guys. If they are kept together, they have a chance to be really good.”
