Center Vincent Damphousse of the San Jose Sharks will be sidelined the next three to four months because of a dislocated left shoulder, the team said.

The Sharks’ leading scorer was injured during Monday night’s 3-2 loss to the Detroit Red Wings. He tried to return to the game but was unable to play.

The team said Damphousse will have surgery tonight to repair the damage. A three- or four-month recovery would keep Damphousse sidelined for the rest of the regular season, though he’d be able to return for the playoffs. Damphousse was selected Tuesday to his first All-Star game since 1992.
