Council to Consider Xenergy Inc. Deal

Council members on Tuesday will consider a one-year, $547,000 agreement between a contractor and its Public Utilities Department.

The proposed agreement with Xenergy Inc., which since 1999 has been the prime contractor for the residential portion of the city’s Advantage Services, would include services for maintaining the existing five programs and adding an Internet audit site for residential utilities customers.

Xenergy would continue to maintain telephone operations, provide a bilingual staff and monthly reports on expenditures, productivity, rates and other residential utility services.

The Advantage Services program was created in response to a 1996 state Assembly bill requiring utilities to use energy efficient, renewable resources and provide services to low-income residents.

Anaheim’s Public Utilities Department, now accessible through the city’s Web address, https://www.anaheim.net, would feature a new site where residential customers could estimate their energy and water bills, based on their history of use and taking the weather into account. The site would offer advice on how to lower utility bills. Audits would also be available through the existing Home Utility Check-Up program.

The council will meet at 5 p.m. in chambers at City Hall, 200 S. Anaheim Blvd.
