Study: Depression Under-Treated in U.S.

Most people being treated for major depression in the U.S. feel their illness is not under complete control, and many have stopped using prescribed drugs because of side effects, according to a survey released by the Chicago-based National Depressive and Manic-Depressive Assn. The survey of 1,001 patients and nearly 900 physicians found that although 85% of patients felt antidepressant therapy had had a positive effect on their lives, fewer than one-quarter said their depression was under complete control in the two months before being surveyed.
