Marina Blanks No. 7 Griffins, Who Suffer First League Loss

Unranked Marina made a case for cracking the Orange County boys’ soccer top 10 by defeating No. 7 Los Alamitos, 1-0, Friday.

Grant Hauxhurst scored on a penalty kick with 17 minutes to play as the Vikings (11-6-4, 2-4) handed the visiting Griffins (14-2-4, 4-1-1) their first Sunset League loss. Goalkeeper Michael Oseguera recorded his sixth shutout of the season.

Jamie Ackerman made three saves for Los Alamitos.

In the Empire League:

No. 3 El Dorado 2, Cypress 0--Ryan Reott and Andrew Baduria scored in the second half and goaltender Danny Kennedy made three saves to get his ninth shutout for host El Dorado (17-1-2, 6-0).

Cypress is 12-5-2, 2-3-1.

Kennedy 5, Katella 1--Sergio Anguiano had two goals and Blake Calabrese, Scott Mackay and Diego Figueroa also scored for host Kennedy (8-9-4, 2-3-1), which led, 4-0, at halftime. Katella is 5-8-2, 1-5.

In the Freeway League:

Fullerton 4, Troy 2--Jeff Haag, Victor Estrada, Anthony Magana and Joel Alexander scored for first-place Fullerton (11-4-3, 5-0-1). Fila Fuentes made four saves. Host Troy is 6-8-4, 2-3-1.

In the South Coast League:

No. 6 Capistrano Valley 4, Mission Viejo 1--Mission Viejo scored first, then the Cougars scored four unanswered goals in the first half for the victory. Brent Barnes had two goals and Jeff Serafini and Garrett Petry had one each for second-place Capistrano Valley (17-3-5, 4-0-2).

Mission Viejo is 7-10-1, 1-4-1.

El Toro 1, San Clemente 0--Sean McMannis scored in the 58th minute off Doug Franco’s assist to win it for host El Toro (10-8-2, 3-3-1). Goalie Todd Jones made four saves to get his fourth shutout.

San Clemente is 3-9-7, 0-5-2.
