City Workers to Flush Water Mains
Starting today, residents of the Halecrest Hall of Fame neighborhood may notice discoloration and sediment in their tap water.
As part of a preventive maintenance program, Mesa Consolidated Water District workers will flush water mains and fire hydrants to remove rust, sand and other sediment from pipes.
For about two weeks, the area bounded by the San Diego Freeway to the north, Baker Street to the south, Harbor Boulevard to the west and Fairview Avenue to the east will be affected.
MCWD General Manager Karl Kemp said the discoloration and sediment in the water “only affects the aesthetic quality. The water is not harmful and will clear up quickly,” he said.
Water officials advise residents to run cold water in bathtubs and other unscreened faucets to help clear household water lines. Residents should avoid washing white or light-colored laundry from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the flushing period to avoid the possibility of staining.
