Kelsey Ball

Huntington Beach, Basketball

Playing in only her third and fourth games of the season after suffering a bad ankle sprain, Ball had 22 points and 11 re-

bounds in the Oilers’ victory over Los Alamitos, and against seventh-ranked Edison she had 23 points and six rebounds in another victory. In the two games, Ball, a junior, shot 56% from the field, making 18 of 32 attempts. From the free-throw line she was a perfect, converting nine of nine.

Newport Harbor, Soccer

The goalkeeper had 10 saves in two games, including eight in Sailors’ upset of Aliso Niguel, then ranked fifth in county.

Mission Viejo, Soccer

Making her first appearance in goal this season, she had six saves to secure scoreless tie with Capistrano Valley.

Travis Niesen

Mission Viejo, Basketball

Niesen had 41 points and 14 rebounds, giving Mission Viejo a 64-63 upset of San Clemente, then ranked 10th in Orange County. Niesen’s free throw in the closing seconds proved to be the game-winner last Monday night. On Wednesday, he scored 15 points and had 11 rebounds in the Diablos’ 53-46 victory over Dana Hills, giving Mission Viejo sole possession of third place in the South Coast League.

Scored the game-winning goal off an assist from Eddie Wertenbroein in the Griffins’ 1-0 upset of Huntington Beach.

Laguna Hills, Wrestling

Helped the Hawks defeat Irvine in Sea View League meet and won the title at 135 pounds in the Laguna Hills tournament.
