From Times Staff Reports

Harbor area police were searching Saturday for a mentally impaired Wilmington man who wandered away from home the previous day.

Relatives said they feared for the safety of Richard Vasquez, 28, who they said suffers seizures and has the mental capacity of an 11-year-old.

At a brief news conference with family members at the Harbor Community Police Station, Jane Rivera said she fears her son will die without the medication he needs to control his seizures.

Rivera said Vasquez left the family home in the 1200 block of West M Street on Friday and could not be found at the places he likes to visit--a mini-mart, a Kmart store and several toy stores.

Vasquez is 5-feet, 7-inches tall and weighs about 125 pounds. He was unshaven and wearing a black T-shirt, blue jeans and black boots. He has a light complexion and a scar on his stomach.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (310) 548-7605.
