Driver Jailed After Hitting Family Head-On

A 28-year-old driver who authorities said appeared to be drunk plowed into an oncoming car at as much as 100 mph Friday, sending a family of three to the hospital in critical condition, Los Angeles Sheriff's Sgt. Ken Wright said.

George Lozano Jr. was speeding east on Palmdale Boulevard about 9 p.m. when he ran head-on into the other car near 80th Street East, Wright said. Lozano was taken into custody, and was to be treated at UCLA Medical Center. His exact condition was unknown.

The identities of the couple and their child were not available.

A number of other cars also may have been damaged in the crash, Wright said.
