No Victim Status for Rep. Condit

Share

How dare attorney Abbe Lowell suggest that Rep. Gary Condit (D-Ceres) should be congratulated for “a very good job of keeping his family intact for so long” (“Rep. Condit’s Lawyer Chastises the Media,” July 9). A man who sneaks around on his wife and sleeps with women young enough to be his daughters deserves no kudos for keeping his family together. How about giving Mrs. Condit the credit?

Lowell has it backward. Only after the media interviewed Chandra Levy’s aunt and the flight attendant did Condit finally let the FBI know the true nature of his romantic relationship with Levy, which was pertinent to her state of mind when she disappeared.

Sorry, but loss of respect and credibility are some of the many negative side effects of being caught in an extramarital relationship.

Re “Ten Commandments’ Sponsor Finds Demons Chasing Him,” Commentary, July 10: According to Robert Scheer, fellow Democrat Condit is not a victim of the vast right-wing conspiracy, he’s part of it. Scheer excused Bill Clinton for everything from perjury to obstruction of justice even though the former president always carried his Bible with him to and from church; yet Condit is to be condemned because he believes in the Ten Commandments. If Scheer is trying to find hypocrisy he needn’t look beyond his own words.
