ANGELS’

SCOTT SCHOENEWEIS

(6-8, 4.95 ERA)

vs.

DIAMONDBACKS’

BRIAN ANDERSON

(2-4, 4.76 ERA)

Update--The Angels will look to resume the momentum they carried during a four-game winning streak to end the season’s first half, a run that included a three-game sweep of the Colorado Rockies in which the Angels scored 27 runs on 41 hits, 11 of them home runs. That won’t be easy, considering the Angels will have to face two of baseball’s best pitchers in this series, right-hander Curt Schilling Friday night and left-hander Randy Johnson Saturday night. They have combined for 351 strikeouts this season. Schilling, however, has been vulnerable to the longball; despite his impressive record and earned-run average, he’s been tagged for 24 home runs this season, most in the National League.

Friday, 7 p.m.--Ismael Valdes (5-4, 4.32) vs. Curt Schilling (12-3, 3.23).

Saturday, 7 p.m.--Jarrod Washburn (7-4, 3.52) vs. Randy Johnson (11-5, 2.71).

Tickets--(714) 663-9000.
