Poetry

The stereotype of the penniless poet is a common one in our culture, but the Factory Readings’ Performance Poetry Contest at the Gypsy Den Cafe offers a chance to remedy that financial plight. At this 10th annual competition, hosted by performance poet Lee Mallory and judged by two fellow scribes, winners will receive cash prizes of up to $50, as well as a $35 reward for the audience’s top selection. All types of poetry are welcome; the Factory’s motto, after all, is “Anything goes as long as it’s good.”

* 10th Annual Performance Poetry Contest, Gypsy Den Grand Central Cafe, 125 N. Broadway, Santa Ana, (714) 835-8840. Sign-ups begin at 6:30 p.m., readings at 8 p.m. $5 entry fee for participants; free for spectators.
