Yelsey, Zalameda Win Doubles Title

Top-seeded Anne Yelsey of Corona del Mar and Riza Zalameda of Los Angeles won the doubles title Saturday in the U.S. Tennis Assn. Super National Girls’ 16 Clay Court Championships at Virginia Beach, Va.

They defeated No. 2-seeded Judith De Vera of Carson and Lindsey Nelson of Orange, 7-6 (4), 6-4.

In the third-place doubles match, fifth-seeded Kady Pooler of Laguna Niguel and Elizabeth Exon of Irvine lost, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, to fourth-seeded Joelle Schwenk of Boca Raton, Fla., and Jolyn Taylor of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.

* Third-seeded Angela Haynes of Compton and Ahsha Rolle of Miami Shores, Fla., lost to top-seeded Catrina and Christian Thompson of Las Vegas, 6-4, 6-3, in doubles semifinals of the USTA Super National Girls’ 18 Clay Court Championships at Memphis, Tenn.

* Sixth-seeded Robert Yim of Glendale beat Jason Hazley of Bradenton, Fla., 3-6, 7-6 (3), 6-4, to advance to today’s fifth-place singles match in the USTA Super National Boys’ 18 Clay Court Championships at Louisville, Ky.

Yim will play top-seeded Brian Baker of Nashville. Baker defeated Ryler De Heart of Tampa, Fla., 6-4, 6-4.
