A crowd angry about the weekend shooting death of an unarmed Fresno man taunted police near the scene Monday, calling officers “murderers” and “trigger-happy.”
Fresno police confirmed Monday that Julian “Boo Boo” Celaya, 25, did not have a weapon when he was killed by officers.
Celaya was shot Saturday as he began to drive away from police in southeast Fresno. He was suspected of stealing two cases of beer from a nearby liquor store and threatening to shoot the store’s clerk if he tried to prevent the robbery. Saturday’s shooting was the third by Fresno police in six days.
