The U.S. Senate confirmed Glendale entrepreneur Hector V. Barreto Jr. to head the Small Business Administration.

Lawmakers approved President Bush’s nominee by voice vote.

Barreto, 39, owns an employee-benefits company and is a former head of the Latin Business Assn. He will head an agency whose budget Bush has proposed cutting from $900 million to $539 million next year.
