Survey Finds Shrinking Opposition to Airport
The majority of Orange County residents are against building an international airport at the closed El Toro Marine base, but opinions are shifting, a survey by Cal State Fullerton and the Orange County Business Council found.
Support for the airport has increased slightly, according to the survey, which asked in 532 telephone interviews “Do you support or oppose building an international airport at the [Marine Corps Air Station at] El Toro?”
About 53% said they either “strongly oppose” or “oppose” building the airport. About 47% told interviewers in the June survey that they either “strongly support” or “support” the airport.
The same survey a year earlier found 41.3% for the project and 58.7% opposed to it.
