From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The governor’s office is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killer of a 20-year-old college student, stabbed to death in February 1994.

Investigators are at a standstill and hope that the additional reward, which brings the total to $70,000, could help solve the murder of Cathy Torrez, said Placentia police spokeswoman Corinne Loomis.

Torrez, a Cal State Fullerton student, was last seen Feb. 12, 1994, leaving her part-time job at a Sav-On drugstore in Placentia. Her body was found about a week later in the trunk of her Toyota parked at Placentia Linda Community Hospital.
