Poundstone’s Drinking Will Be Factor in Case, Attorney Says
Comic Paula Poundstone has a drinking problem and it will definitely be a factor in the child abuse case she is facing, her attorney said Monday.
“Any time anyone abuses alcohol it clouds their judgment,” attorney Steven Cron said. “I can’t discuss the facts of the case, but that’s a given.”
Cron made his comments after a hearing in Santa Monica involving charges of lewd acts on a child and child endangerment against Poundstone.
During the hearing Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Bernard Kamins delayed setting a date for a preliminary hearing for Poundstone until Aug. 27.
Kamins advised Poundstone, who was arrested June 27, that the delay would require her to waive her right to a speedy preliminary hearing. She posted $200,000 bail a short time after being arrested June 27 in Malibu.
Kamins asked Poundstone if she was willing to waive that right.
She nodded in agreement twice, then said, “Yes, your honor.”
Poundstone, 41, said nothing else during the proceedings. She has previously pleaded innocent.
