From Times Staff Reports

About 10 families were evacuated from their Anaheim homes late Thursday night after a pipe bomb exploded and a second unexploded one was found, police said.

No one was injured in the 8:50 p.m. blast, which started a small grass fire in the 100 block of West Street. Police were initially summoned because of the fire, but learned on their way that a bomb may have been detonated.

Remnants of the homemade pipe bomb were found scattered across the street, said Police Sgt. Rick Martinez.

A police search uncovered a second bomb about 11 p.m. on a curb on West Street, just south of Lincoln Avenue. The sheriff’s bomb squad used a robot to explode it, Martinez said. An investigation is continuing.
