Fountain Valley Rabbi to Deliver Prayer for Senate

Rabbi Stephen J. Einstein of Congregation B’nai Tzedek in Fountain Valley will be the guest chaplain of the U.S. Senate on Thursday, offering an opening prayer that reads in part:

“We appreciate the gift of time. You have allotted to us minutes and hours and presented us with the challenge: Use this time for good. In this chamber, we acknowledge that there is so much good that needs to be done. We are humbled by the tasks that await us. May we face them with renewed vigor and purpose.”

Einstein’s prayer in the Senate coincides with his synagogue’s 25th anniversary.

The Laguna Beach Chorale will conduct a chamber concert at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Laguna Beach United Methodist Church. Selections will include John Rutter’s “When Icicles Hang,” “Requiem” and “Good Ale,” Baldassare Galuppi’s “Magnificat” and Hildor Lundvik’s three “Nocturnes.” The group will be accompanied by Michael Denison on piano, chorale director Daniel Resch on organ and Malcolm Hamilton on harpsichord. * “Music of the Saints and Spheres,” featuring the works of such British composers as Ralph Vaughan Williams and Gustav Holst, is the theme of the Trinity United Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir Spring Concert. The concert is Sunday at 7 p.m. at the church. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children. The church’s men’s group will host a breakfast with Murray Dempster speaking on “Ethics and Christianity in the Workplace” from 6:30 to 8 a.m. Thursday. Dempster is president of Vanguard University. The Feast of Pentecost will be celebrated with a single 9 a.m. festival Eucharist at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Tustin Sunday. The performance will feature brass, organ, hand bells, and youth and adult choirs.

The Chancel Choir will perform John Rutter’s “Te Deum,” one of the most ancient Christian liturgical texts. The Rev. Reese M. Riley will deliver the sermon. St. Paul’s is located 1221 Wass St. (714) 544-3141.

* “An Orange County Gathering of Jewish Men,” co-sponsored by the Orange County branches of the Jewish Community Center and Jewish Family Service, is set for 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. June 10 at the Jewish Community Center. Speakers will include Rabbi Stephen Einstein on “Sustaining Jewish Life,” and Bruce Fredenberg, a trainer and therapist, on “Challenging Stages of Life: Skills and Tools.” Drs. * Cheryl Landon, speaker and daughter of the late actor Michael Landon, will discuss “Seven Keys to Supercharging Your Life” at 9 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Unity Community Church in Laguna Hills.

* Former Olympic gymnast Peter Vidmar will be the keynote speaker during an interfaith breakfast at Cypress Church.

* Tod D. Brown, the Roman Catholic bishop of Orange, will ordain two Vietnamese immigrants to the priesthood 10 a.m. June 9 at St. Columban Church in Garden Grove.
