Driver Who Killed Pedestrian Sentenced

The driver of a sedan that ran off the road in March and killed a 77-year-old Valley Village resident was sentenced to a year in jail.
Edward Brown of Panorama City pleaded no contest to vehicular manslaughter after losing control of his car when his brakes failed. The sedan careened onto a Sherman Oaks sidewalk, hitting a telephone pole, a bus bench and two trees before striking Nasrollah Rezaie, who was standing near a bus stop.
Rezaie was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, where he died shortly after the 7:15 a.m. accident.
Authorities said the 23-year-old had known for about six months that his brakes were faulty but continued to drive his car. Brown’s girlfriend told officers she refused to ride in his sedan or allow her children to because of the condition of the vehicle’s brakes.
