The Arizona Cardinals withdrew a $512,000 tender offer to defensive end Andre Wadsworth, severing their ties to the last member of a group that had the potential of being one of the NFL’s best defensive lines.

Wadsworth was the No. 3 pick in the 1998 draft. But he only played one full season after developing knee problems in 1999.

Wadsworth was viewed as the capstone of a line featuring three first-round selections. Wadsworth was to join tackle Eric Swann (1991) and end Simeon Rice (1996).

Wadsworth will cost $5.2 million against the cap this year.

Defensive end Jeremiah Parker, who is accused with his girlfriend of aggravated manslaughter in the death of her 4-year-old son, was waived by the New York Giants.

“Jeremiah obviously has some serious issues that he needs to devote his time and energy to,” General Manager Ernie Accorsi said. “We feel it’s in his best interests and ours for him to be able to concentrate solely on those issues.”

Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning is upset that running back Edgerrin James has missed the first four days of a voluntary three-week camp.

James, the NFL’s leading rusher the last two years, missed the entire first week of the camp that began Tuesday. His agent, Leigh Steinberg, has said James is working out in Miami and would not attend any voluntary workouts.

“I saw where his agent, who is not one of my favorites, made some kind of statement,” Manning said. “I don’t put a whole of merit in that. Hopefully, he’ll be in here Monday.”

Linebacker Shawn Barber signed a one-year, $1.115 million deal with the Washington Redskins. Barber, a fourth-round draft pick from Richmond in 1998, has been the starting weak-side linebacker for the last two seasons.

The Buffalo Bills released running back Jonathan Linton, offensive lineman Victor Allotey and cornerback Ray Hill. The moves were made to free up salary-cap space for Buffalo to sign its 12 draft picks.
