A Boyle Heights mother and her five children who were struck by a car Sunday have been released from County-USC Medical Center and White Memorial Medical Center, authorities said Monday.
The mother, Sandra Mercado Lopez, and children ages 1 to 11, were hit by a 1987 Jeep Cherokee traveling about 20 mph as they crossed the 2700 block of 1st Street about 8:30 p.m. They were about 200 feet from a marked crosswalk, said Officer Ladonna Cissell, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department.
Authorities reported late Sunday that two children were in critical condition. But the injuries of all the pedestrians turned out to be minor, Cissell said Monday.
The driver was uninjured and was not ticketed. Authorities say there is still a possibility that child endangerment charges will be filed against the mother.
The children’s grandmother suffered an anxiety attack after hearing about the accident but was reported Monday to be doing well, Cissell said.
