The first class of police academy cadets at Mulholland Middle School will celebrate the completion of its first year in a campus ceremony today at 5 p.m.

The 94 cadets, who will not graduate from the program until next year, are among the first in the nation to participate in a police academy at a middle school, said Principal John L. White.

Five city high schools have cadet police academies--including Monroe and Reseda--and last year Mulholland became the first middle school to offer the program.

“The high standards to which the cadets are being held accountable create an air of discipline and teach the basic lesson that commitment and discipline will pay off,” White said.

The ceremony will be held in Mulholland’s activity room at 17120 Vanowen St.
