Decline in Revenues Spurs Powerwave Cuts

Powerwave Technologies Inc., a Santa Ana maker of power amplifiers for wireless communications, said it dismissed about 50 employees this week because of the economic slowdown in the cellular telephone business.

The layoff of 4% of its work force followed the company’s announcement Monday that its fiscal second-quarter revenue will be as much as 17% less than expected. Sales in the quarter ending July 1 will be $70 million to $80 million, the company said.
