Another Suspect Pleads Innocent in Assault Case
A fifth man in the videotaped assault on a UC Santa Barbara freshman last September pleaded not guilty to charges ranging from kidnapping to sexual assault.
Scott James Carter, 19, of Lompoc entered the pleas Thursday, joining four co-defendants who pleaded not guilty to charges of false imprisonment, kidnapping, administering stupefying drugs, sexual assault of an incapacitated victim and criminal conspiracy.
A videotape of the assault was turned over to authorities June 4. The victim was so traumatized by the attack that he dropped out of college and moved away, authorities said.
