From Times Wire Reports

A former San Diego State University student was placed on probation for his role in a fraternity hazing incident in which a pledge nearly died from alcohol poisoning.

Andrew Fitkowski, 20, was sentenced to three years’ probation Friday and must perform 20 days of community service and attend 36 Alcoholics Anonymous meetings for orchestrating the binge-drinking episode last fall.

Fitkowski pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of hazing and furnishing alcohol to a minor.

Fraternity pledge Daniel Kornweibel was found unconscious on a street after Fitkowski ordered him and two other 18-year-old freshmen to drink beer and liquor for several hours and then sent them home unsupervised. Kornweibel’s blood-alcohol level was 0.31%, nearly four times the legal limit for driving in California.
